Belvedere “Donatori di sangue”, Linden garden or Pincio are the various names with which is known one of the most beautiful panoramic balconies of the Marche, where the view ranges from the Sibillini to the sea. The first is the current name since October 13, 1996, the second is the name he had previously and comes from the planting of 50 linden trees in 1901 that form the avenue. The third is the name that all potentini like to use, most likely comes from the partial similarity to the Pincio of Rome, as shown by some writings of the late nineteenth century.
To admire is the imposing tree in the middle of the garden “The cedar of Lebanon” one of the oldest in the Marche. Some research dates it back to 1873, the year of the beginning of the construction of the belvedere realized by the demolition of some walls that are part of the cloister of the convent of the Franciscan Conventual friars of the homonymous church that you find at the entrance of the Pincio. For citizens this is the most impressive place in the city and all visitors should come to enjoy this show. In particular in the first weeks of June when the linden trees bloom and give off an intense scent that heralds the arrival of the summer. Not to be missed, during the summer mornings when the heat is felt, is the pleasant coolness ideal to read a good book and to spend a few hours relaxing. At sunset, you should not forget about the camera: when the sun starts to hide behind Monte San Vicino, the sky lights up with multiple colors and shades. It is impossible to describe and cannot be photographed.
In the evening the Pincio, with its warm temperature but refreshed by a good breeze, is a place that stimulates conversation and good laughter sipping and tasting typical products that the city has to offer: try it to believe!
What can you see from Pincio? A unique, breathtaking view of the park of the Sibillini mountains to Monte Conero. Below we find the valley of the river Potenza that is born in Fiuminata (MC) and after 95km, crossing numerous cities, it plunges into the Adriatic Sea in the city of Porto Recanati. The first thing that stands out from the view is the Monte Conero shaped like a whale overlooking the sea. The regional park was established in 1987 and is the most important promontory of the Adriatic after that of the Gargano, with its 572 meters of height it fully deserves the name of “mount”. Its beaches nestled between sea and rock are a must to visit, the same goes for the villages of Sirolo and Numana, Camerano that is also called the city of wine “Rosso Conero”. You can see Loreto, the city of Mary with its basilica containing the translated house of Mary of Nazareth. You can also see the cities of Castelfidardo -famous all over the world for the accordion-, Offagna, Osimo and Recanati, the birthplace of the poet Giacomo Leopardi. Montefiore, with its 10th century watchtower, leads us to the inner part of the province up to Cingoli also called “the balcony of the Marche” and Mount San Vicino with its 1480 meters and its meadows perfect for hiking. We arrive in Macerata, capital of the province, which has as its symbol the Sferisterio, a semicircular arena originally intended for the game of football bracelet now open theater that hosts as an event of excellence the theatrical season “Macerata Opera Festival”.
Last but not least, the village of Montelupone is one of the best preserved historical centres.
Before visiting all these beauties, do not miss the characteristic Montesanto, the name of the historic center of Potenza Picena until 1862, a distillate of the Marche where cities and countryside, sea and hill coexist. Do not miss the De Mayo Pyramid, always close to the Belvedere, a small copy of the original located in Buenos Aires. It was donated by the “Società Potentina di Mutuo Soccorso of Buenos Aires”, an important organization of potential emigrants in Argentina. It was placed in the present place with majestic celebrations on July 16, 1967. Continuing towards Piazza Matteotti we find the Town Hall, the civic tower and the theater named after Bruno Mugellini, the many churches and the small streets of the center.
A few kilometers away, but still in the territory of Potenza Picena, you can reach the seaside city of Porto Potenza Picena with its typical walk to the sea, beautiful by day and by night, the hamlets of San Girio and Montecanepino, immersed in the countryside between wineries, unique hilly landscapes and historic villas, such as Villa Buonaccorsi.
Enjoy your visit and have fun!
